Tickets for the next month’s event go on sale the third Friday of the month at 9:00 am. For example, tickets for an event on Thursday, November 16 would go on sale Friday, October 20.
The Doane Observatory is the largest aperture telescope available to the public in the Chicago area. It is located directly behind the museum along Lake Michigan. Because we can only allow limited access to the observation deck, we schedule 15-minute tours of the observatory and the opportunity to look through the telescope for an additional cost (visible objects in the night sky vary by season and weather conditions). Please note that tours often sell out and can be canceled due to weather conditions.
Your ticket includes admission into the event, full access to museum exhibits and galleries, unlimited sky shows in our 3 state-of-the-art theaters, special guests and lectures, stellar hands-on educational programs, live entertainment, and the best view of the skyline from anywhere in Chicago!
Weather permitting, the Doane Observatory will be open to all Adler After Dark guests for at least an hour after the event begins between the months of March-September. Please note that ticketed tours of the Doane Observatory are NOT included but can be added to your General Admission ticket for $8.00 apiece. Food and beverages are not included and available for purchase at the event.
Once you check in, the rest of the evening is up to you! We recommend visiting the bar and grabbing a snack, and choosing one (or more) sky shows to see as they often fill up (seats in theaters are first-come, first-served once doors open). The rest of the event is largely drop-in programs that you can explore at your convenience. An event schedule/map will be available on the website 1-2 days before your event.
