Telescopes: Through The Looking Glass

FEAST YOUR EYES ON A COLOSSAL 22-FOOT-LONG ANTIQUE TELESCOPE AND FIND OUT HOW TELESCOPES TRANSFORMED OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE UNIVERSE.

Included With General Admission

Astronomers have studied the sky for thousands of years, but until about 400 years ago, they did it without telescopes. In Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass, you’ll see spectacular models of the celestial objects—like the table-sized Grand Orrery, a Solar System hand-crafted from wood and brass—and find out how those models changed after telescopes brought the Universe into focus.

You’ll get a crash course in telescope technology, experiment with lenses to see how they bend light in different ways, and discover the South Pole Telescope, which was designed to explore the properties of the cosmic microwave background—the oldest light in the Universe.
