The Alan B. Shepard Society

The Adler Planetarium established The Alan B. Shepard Society to honor Commander Shepard's legacy as the first American in space.  Members of The Alan B. Shepard Society contribute annual restricted gifts of $1,000 or more to support space science education and research programs at the Adler.

Shepard successfully completed America’s first manned space flight.  His achievement electrified people around the world and sparked a decade of unparalleled discovery in space.  Today, Commander Shepard’s legacy of adventure inspires our pursuit of knowledge about the Universe and our place within it.

Levels of Membership

Members of The Alan B. Shepard Society receive all benefits of family and annual fund memberships, in addition to these privileges:

  • Invitations to the Shepard Society Astronomy Luncheon series, featuring science, education, and policy leaders;
  • Behind-the-scenes opportunities and VIP previews with Adler scientists and curators;
  • Advance reservation service for you and your family;
  • Complimentary subscription to the newsletter of The Alan B. Shepard Society;
  • Recognition in the Honor Roll of Donors; and
  • All benefits of family membership, including free admission and show tickets, discounts in the The Adler Store and Café Galileo’s, invitations to and discounts for public lectures, and more.

Membership levels in The Alan B. Shepard Society begin at $1,000. Higher levels of recognition are available at gifts of $2,500, $5,000, and $10,000.

Shepard Society Executive Committee are civic leaders who endorse the education, research, and advocacy mission of the Adler Planetarium.  Members of the Executive Committee provide leadership to the Adler and serve as ambassadors for the museum in the community.
