Available Opportunities to Work with the Public

Activity Cart Coordinator

Activity Cart Coordinators are at the forefront of our visitor experience and allow museum guests to learn about space science hands-on and to encourage guests to take a more in depth look at Adler’s content and collections.  Activity carts are interactive and are facilitated in several of our galleries.

SVL Assistant

To provide interactive educational experiences for visitors to the planetarium utilizing the Space Visualization Lab (SVL). Space Visualization Lab Assistants make an exciting and unique laboratory accessible to the public and help ensure a high-quality experience for our visitors.

Available Opportunities to Work Behind the Scenes

Advancement Assistant

Assist with a variety of tasks from data entry to donation assembly, building membership packets to mass mailings. Volunteers may also be asked to help at events, both on- and off-site.

Far Horizons Project Assistant

To assist Astronomy staff in assembling components of a near-space ballooning system project called Far Horizons.

Library Assistant

To update and maintain the Adler's periodical and book databases in order to offer a quick reference source for scholars and visitors.  The Adler Planetarium’s Webster Institute for History of Astronomy department contains the third most significant collection of history of scientific instruments and rare books in the world.

Office Assistant

To assist the Adler with data entry of many materials. The volunteer in this position will potentially assist with multiple ongoing projects. Departments that utilize volunteers in this role include Astronomy, Education, Public Relations, and Special Events. Volunteers may use include Excel, Word, and web-based programs.

Application

After you complete and submit the application to the Volunteer Department, if selected, you will be contacted for an interview. We will then discuss the best fit between the museum's needs and your interests and availability.
