Adler After Dark
Kick-off your weekend early on Thursday, May 24, from 6:30 - 10:30 p.m., at the Adler Planetarium's 21+ event, Adler After Dark.
Advanced tickets sales end at noon the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased at the box office during the event.
Please note on Thursday, May 24, from 7:00 - 10:30 p.m. Columbus Dr. will be closed due to the Chase Corporate Challenge race.
Event Overview
Enjoy cocktails and entertainment against the award-winning view of the Chicago skyline seen only from the Adler. Amble around the Adler's exhibitions or take in a sky or space show. See Saturn's rings or Jupiter's great red spot with your own eyes using the Adler's telescopes. Peek through the Doane Observatory telescope, the largest telescope in the Midwest accessible to the public or play around with our After Hours Science activities and demonstrations.
Each month Adler After Dark reinvents itself with a new and exciting theme, so there is something new to discover and experience. Great for groups and makes for a very original first date, Adler After Dark has something for everyone!

Lunar Luau
Get lei'd at Adler After Dark, as we travel to the tropics for our very own Lunar Luau. Dance the hula to DJ Bearcat's surf jams and witness the wrath of volcanoes before getting swept away with our specialty cocktail, the Blue Hawaiian. Before the evening ends, hang ten at our Lunar Lounge and get your picture taken as a reminder of your totally tubular time. Starting at 6:30 p.m., this month's Lunar Luau rides into the planetarium the fourth Thursday of May. Be there or be square, dude.

DJ Bearcat is local to Chicago specializing in what she likes to call "Granny Surf Jams": Rude novelty songs, torch songs, exotica, hot jazz, and of course classic surf beats. And keeping with the laid back theme, the set is all vinyl.

After Hours Science
Violent Volcanoes
Relive your favorite grade school science experiment in this explosive demonstration! Volcanoes—active and extinct—can be found all over the Earth, and even on other planets and moons in our Solar System. But can a volcano churn out something other than molten rock? Come find out what drives these extreme eruptions at Violent Volcanoes!
Show Schedule
All three of Adler’s theaters will be running all night long. Bask in the Sun in our 3D Universe Theater, see what’s happening in the beautiful night sky in the Definiti Theater or travel the cosmos with The Searcher in the Grainger Sky Theater.
Doane Observatory
The Doane Observatory will be open for drop-in visitors until 8:00 p.m. From 8:15 p.m. onward, tickets are required for entrance to the observatory. Tour tickets can only be reserved when you purchase advance tickets; observatory tickets will not be available with on-site sales. Please note that access to the Doane is subject to weather.

Take a trip to the islands—the Hawaiian Islands, that is—with our Blue Hawaiian cocktail! If this cocktail, made with light rum, Blue Curacao liqueur, and pineapple juice, doesn’t remind you of a lazy day by the beach, we don’t know what will!

Advanced tickets purchased online are $12 for non-members and $9 for members and students (with valid school IDs). Advance tickets go on sale May 1, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. Doane tours can only be reserved when you purchase advance tickets; tour tickets are available in limited quantity; tour reservations will not be available with on-site sales.
Tickets bought at the box office the night of the event are $17 for non-members and $12 for members and students (with valid school IDs).
All guests must be 21 and up. A cash bar and full cafe menu is available.
