Adler After Dark

Kick-off your weekend early every third Thursday, 6:00 - 10:00 p.m., at the Adler Planetarium's  21+ event, Adler After Dark.

Event Overview

IMAGE: Doane Observatory at NightEnjoy cocktails and entertainment against the award-winning view of the Chicago skyline seen only from the Adler. Amble around the Adler's exhibitions or take in a sky or space show. See Saturn's rings or Jupiter's great red spot with your own eyes using the Adler's telescopes. Peek through the Doane Observatory telescope, the largest telescope in the Midwest accessible to the public or play around with our After Hours Science activities and demonstrations.

Each month Adler After Dark reinvents itself with a new and exciting theme, so there is something new to discover and experience. Great for groups and makes for a very original first date, Adler After Dark has something for everyone!

The Finer Things

Join the Adler Planetarium  to celebrate 'The Finer Things' in life.  What are finer things?  Diamonds, Chocolate, Broadway, the Opera, Starry nights, Champagne wishes and caviar dreams.

Science of Chocolate

Whether you consider it a daily necessity, an indulgence, or your drug of choice, chocolate is a marvel. You love it. But to fully appreciate it you should understand its amazing chemical properties. Here is your rare chance to learn more about your beloved sweet treat. You'll learn this and more at the Science of Chocolate which will feature Dr. Shelby Hatch, from the chemistry department of Northwestern University.

Buzzing among the artist-activists, party kids, hiphop heads, future-beat producers, Yelp-ers and wedding goers, Victor aka DJ Limbs is an all around lover of sound and finer things. From his upbringing in Switzerland, the Philippines and the US, Limbs applies his cultural diversity to his music and is one of few who can truly string together a multitude of genres to enhance the vibe for his crowd.

Visitors Going to the Doane during AADDoane Observatory (weather permitting)

The Doane Observatory will be open for drop-in visitors until 6:45 p.m. From 7:00 p.m. onward, tickets are required for entrance to the observatory. Tour tickets can only be reserved when you purchase advance tickets; tickets will not be available with on-site sales. Please note that access to the Doane is subject to weather.

Advanced tickets purchased online are $12 for non-members and $9 for members and students (with valid school IDs).  Doane tours can only be reserved when you purchase advance tickets; tour tickets are available in limited quantity; tour reservations will not be available with on-site sales.

Tickets bought at the box office the night of the event are $17 for non-members and $12 for members and students (with valid school IDs).

The Adler is easily accessible via the #146 CTA bus (PDF). CTA service leaving Museum Campus ends at 10:30 p.m.
