Accessibility
![]() The Adler Planetarium provides curb-cut ramps for ease of access to sidewalks, and a street level entrance just South of the Main entrance. For additional convenience, just inside the South entrance is the Group Services Desk, where tickets for all Adler attractions can be purchased. As an added service, the Adler can provide a wheelchair for those in need of use during their visit, at no extra cost (supplies limited, identification required).
The Adler Planetarium also provides some resources about astronomy in Braille. Please ask a Museum Services staff member at either box office if you would like to use these materials.
A family restroom is located near the Group Services Entrance (mid-level South).
Galileo's Café provides tables designed to accommodate visitors who use wheelchairs.
The Adler Planetarium offers closed captioning devices in both the DefinitiŽ and Sky Theaters. The device, called I-Caption, displays the planetarium show's narrative text in sync with the program's audio narration. The I-Caption was selected as the best closed captioning device by a focus group of people who are deaf and hard-of-hearing.
• Closed captioning technology for Adler sky shows is available to all visitors. Please request a closed captioning voucher from the box office. Arrive at the theater 15 minutes before your show time and present your voucher to the member of the service staff.
• An Adler technician will demonstrate the closed captioning device to you. • All closed captioning devices must be returned at the conclusion of each show. • To find out which sky shows are closed captioned, please refer to the Definiti® Space Theater and Sky Theaters and look for the CC symbol. Closed Captioning is provided by generous grants from the Lincoln Financial Group Foundation, The Dr. Scholl Foundation and The Blowitz-Ridgeway Foundation. The Adler Planetarium offers a tour for groups of five visitors who are visually impaired and one sighted guide. Tour cost is $5.00 plus the price of admission per person.

Inside Sales Representative 312-294-0364 The Adler Education staff make every effort to modify the Discover Our Universe show to make it accessible for students who have disabilities. Teachers: Please be sure to indicate on your reservation form if you have students who have specific disabilities, so we can prepare before your group arrives. We can offer tactile images of the planets and constellations discussed in the show, and can provide red flashlights to illuminate sign-language interpreters, and scripts or captioning devices for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
