To
lead educational activities and provide exhibit interpretation for
visitors to the Adler's latest exhibits, Liberty Bell 7 and Gemini 12.
Docents will provide an exciting and interactive experience to visitors
by facilitating educational activities for children, brief gallery
tours, and sharing inspiring stories about the spacecraft and related
spaceflight artifacts.
Responsibilities:
• Share information about the featured spacecraft, other artifacts,
and the science behind space exploration. • Conduct scientific
demonstrations, crafts and other hands–on activities related to
space science. • Answer questions and explain ideas presented
in exhibits to visitors. • Inform Volunteer Program Manager
of schedule changes, conflicts and all happy experiences.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 17 years old. Should enjoy interacting with
children, families, adults and groups. Have an interest in learning
about science, particularly astronomy and physics. Be enthusiastic and
comfortable about sharing new ideas with groups of people of all ages.
Knowledge of the history of space flight is a plus.
Training:
Spacecraft Exhibit Docents must complete two trainings:
Presentation Skills and Exhibit training. In the half–day
Presentation Skills training, volunteers will learn the lay-out of the
Adler, important details about the museum and volunteering, and
necessary presentation skills needed to interact with our audience. The
half–day Exhibit training will provide further information about
the exhibit, methods of exhibit interpretation, and activity training.
At their interview with the Volunteer Program Manager, volunteers
will be made aware of upcoming trainings they may be able to
attend.
Commitment:
•
Successfully complete a comprehensive training program. •
Volunteer three hours, at least once every other week. (Weekends or
weekdays.) • Make a minimum commitment of 1 year.
