Tickets for the next month’s event go on sale the third Friday of the month at 9:00 am. For example, tickets for an event on Thursday, November 16 would go on sale Friday, October 20.
Your ticket includes admission into the event, full access to museum exhibits and galleries, unlimited sky shows in our 3 state-of-the-art theaters, special guests and lectures, stellar hands-on educational programs, live entertainment, and the best view of the skyline from anywhere in Chicago!
Weather permitting, the Doane Observatory will be open to all Adler After Dark guests for at least an hour after the event begins between the months of March-September. Please note that ticketed tours of the Doane Observatory are NOT included but can be added to your General Admission ticket for $8.00 apiece. Food and beverages are not included and available for purchase at the event.
The Doane Observatory at the Adler Planetarium contains the largest public telescope in the Chicago area. It is located in a separate building directly behind the museum next to Lake Michigan.
For an additional charge, we offer a 15-minute guided experience at Adler After Dark with the opportunity to interact with Adler Astronomy Department staff in an intimate, small-group setting and—weather permitting—look through the telescope.
Please note: Observatory programs may be altered or canceled due to weather without advance notice; if clouds or other conditions do not permit viewing through the telescope, an alternate program in the Observatory will be substituted, at the discretion of Observatory staff.
You can choose your Observatory experience time slot if you add the Doane Tour option during check out on the website; the program meeting location will be identified on your print-at-home ticket. Please note that if you are unable to purchase tickets, it is likely that all available tickets are sold out (quantities are extremely limited).
Once you check in, the rest of the evening is up to you! We recommend visiting the bar and grabbing a snack, and choosing one (or more) sky shows to see as they often fill up (seats in theaters are first-come, first-served once doors open). The rest of the event is largely drop-in programs that you can explore at your convenience. An event schedule/map will be available on the website 1-2 days before your event.
