Founded in 2002 by Linda Celesia and Susan Downing, the Women’s Board has been a leading partner in supporting science education programs, research, and community outreach. The Women’s Board has achieved tremendous success in supporting the museum’s efforts to engage young minds in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, with a special focus on young women.
The Board was composed of philanthropic and professional women, with significant experience in corporate or public service, representing a diverse range of industries including financial services, law, education, consulting, travel, and the arts. In response to evolving needs and new challenges facing the Adler in 2020, the Board has made several changes to the Adler’s fundraising strategy. As a result, the Adler Women’s Board has retired and we have elected several members of that board onto the full Board of Trustees and onto a newly formed Development Committee of the Board.
Their guidance and support of the Adler’s signature events, the Women in Space Science Award Luncheon and Celestial Ball, have helped the Adler to raise over $16.8 million dollars over the last eighteen years in critical funds that support the Adler’s mission to empower people across Chicago and the world to look up. The Adler Planetarium is thankful for their service and continued support of the museum
