Field Trips

A close-up of smiling visitors.

The Adler’s in-person field trip experiences are postponed until further notice as the museum is currently closed due to COVID-19.

Please consider booking a virtual field trip to the Adler. All the details can be found here.

In-person field trips at the Adler are fun, out-of-this-world learning experiences. Your group will enjoy hands-on, minds-on activities and explore mind-blowing facts about the universe that will stay with them long after they’ve left the museum. With two domed theaters, a selection of staff-facilitated activities, and 60,000 square feet of exhibitions, the Adler casts visitors in the role of scientist, engineer, astronaut, and creative problem solver.

5. Once we receive your payment, we will email you a final confirmation agreement and receipt.

6. You’re all set! Enjoy your field trip to the Adler Planetarium!

What’s Included?

All of the Adler’s exhibitions and world-class collections are included with your admission. Additionally, all experiences are free for Illinois schools or included with Museum Entry. Planet Explorers (available for preschool–3rd grade) is free, but does require advance reservations. Limit of 60 students per 25-minute experience.

All other experiences are hands-on, facilitator-guided, and available to school groups on a first-come, first-served drop-in basis. This includes the Star Studio in Chicago’s Night Sky where groups are welcome, but space is limited. Please check at the Star Studio for availability. Be sure that your visit to the Star Studio, or any of our drop-in experiences, doesn’t conflict with your pre-scheduled events.

Our sky shows can be added to any field trip for an additional rate. All shows are 30 minutes in length and take place in one of our domed theaters. Except for One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure, all shows are presented live. Purchase tickets when making your school group reservation.

Payment Options

Full payment is due two weeks before your visit. No deposit is required at the time of booking, unless you are visiting less than two weeks from the time of scheduling (in which case full payment is due at the time of scheduling). Payment can be made either by check or credit card.
